Who it is for

The CLS series is Motorola's small UHF business radio for retail, restaurant, hotel and long-term care teams: one watt, a drop-in charger, and a body light enough to wear all shift. This SKU is the 4-channel model, and it adds VibraCall vibrating alert and scan across its four channels. The whole series is UHF, which suits buildings and built-up sites; read UHF vs VHF two-way radios if you are weighing it against a VHF radio.

Battery, power and coverage

  • Battery life: rated by Motorola at 18 hours on the PMNN4497 1800 mAh Li-Ion battery, or 12.5 hours on the SNN5571 1200 mAh battery, on a 5-5-90 duty cycle (5 percent transmit, 5 percent receive, 90 percent standby).
  • Charging: the drop-in charger charges the radio and then a spare battery in sequence, each in about 8 to 10 hours; the six-pocket multi-unit charger takes up to 6 radios or batteries at once.
  • Power and band: 1 W on UHF 461 to 470 MHz, 4 channels drawn from 56 UHF business-exclusive frequencies, with 121 interference eliminator codes.
  • Coverage: Motorola quotes up to 200,000 square feet inside steel and concrete structures, up to 15 floors in a multi-level building, and up to 5 miles in open areas with no obstructions, varying with terrain and conditions.
  • Also built in: cloning of settings radio to radio through the multi-unit charger or cloning cable; dual-pin accessory connection; one-year limited warranty.

Licence

This radio operates on licensed business frequencies. An FCC business radio licence (Part 90) is required to transmit; CMI can point you at the process when you order.

Accessories that fit

CMI connector codes: M and MA (Motorola 2-pin).
