Who it is for

The IC-V3MR is the easy entry to licence-free business radio: shops, restaurants, schools, churches, clinics and families who want a radio that sounds like a professional set and runs all day. If the radios will get wet or dropped on concrete, step up to the IP67 IC-V10MR.

  • Weight: about 9.3 oz (265 g) with the BP-298.
  • Battery: the supplied BP-298 (2250 mAh typical) is rated at 24 hours; the BC-240 rapid charger refills it in about 3 hours.
  • Power: 2 W high, 1 W mid, 0.5 W low.
  • Protection: IP54 dust protection and splash resistance; MIL-STD-810G.
  • In the box: BP-298 battery, BC-240 rapid charger, BC-242 AC adapter, MB-124 belt clip and FA-SC28V antenna.

Licence

None needed. MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) is licence-free in the United States, so a business or a family can put these radios to work the day they arrive.

Accessories that fit

CMI connector codes: S3A and S3B. Icom's brochure names the HS-94 earphone headset among the options. Icom's brochure notes that the HS-94 headset needs either the VS-4LA PTT switch cable or the OPC-2004LA VOX adapter cable to plug in. The HM-158LA and HM-159LA speaker microphones, the HM-222HLWP high-output speaker microphone, the BP-298 battery and the BC-240 and BC-214N chargers are not listed online; ask CMI by part number.

Part number

CMI part number: V3MR. Compare it with the IC-V10MR, and read CMI's guide to professional vs consumer two-way radios if you are deciding between a MURS radio and a store-bought pair. The rest of CMI's Icom range is in the Icom collection.
