This is Kenwood's ProTalk analog portable in the UHF band at 5 W, carrying 64 channels.

Power is the whole decision inside this family. Kenwood's own catalog puts it plainly: the 2 W models are a valuable investment for reliable on-site communication, while the 5 W models provide enhanced coverage for more demanding environments. A single floor, a restaurant or a small store is a 2 W job; a yard, a multi-storey building or a site with steel between people is where the 5 W model earns its price. The NX-P1302AUK is the other half of that pair in this band.

Kenwood specifies a 2,000 mAh pack with a three hour charge and a weight of 9.88 oz, and positions the range for retail, hospitality and venue work. Band cannot be changed after purchase and a UHF radio will not talk to one on the other band, so anyone adding to a fleet should match what is already in service.

Who it is for

Retail, hospitality and venue teams that run analog UHF business radios today and want more of the same: a tough 5 W portable that works with other business radios set to the same frequency, privacy code and analog mode. If you expect to go digital later, the NX-P1300NUK is the digital/analog alternative in the same ProTalk family.

Licence

This radio operates on licensed UHF business frequencies. An FCC business radio licence (Part 90) is required to transmit; CMI can point you at the process when you order.

Accessories that fit

CMI connector code: K (Kenwood 2-pin). Kenwood's business radio catalogue names these for the NX-P1000 series: the KNB-45L 2,000 mAh battery, the KRA-42M UHF stubby antenna and the KBH-10 belt clip; the catalogue also lists the KSC-35SK 3-hour fast charger. Kenwood's 2-pin audio accessories are listed as compatible with all its business radios, including the KHS-26 earbud headset.
