Motorola Body Worn Camera VB400

The VB400 is Motorola's body worn camera for work where a full shift has to be covered on one charge. It measures 2.7 by 3.5 by 1.04 in (68 by 89 by 26.6 mm) and weighs 5.7 oz (162 g) before mounting.

The pre-record buffer is the feature that decides whether a camera is useful. The VB400 holds up to two minutes of pre and post-record, so when someone hits the switch the recording already contains the two minutes that led up to it - which is almost always the part that matters and almost never the part anyone manages to capture by pressing a button in time.

Peer-assisted recording extends that across a team: one camera starting a recording can trigger other VB400s within a configurable radius, so an incident is covered from more than one angle without anyone having to think about it. RFID assignment lets cameras be pooled and issued rather than allocated one per person, which is how most organizations actually run them.

The camera has five software-configurable switches, dual microphone audio capture and an integral GPS receiver. The battery is Lithium-Polymer, integral and not user serviceable, and typically recharges in under eight hours; Motorola notes that actual runtime depends on how the camera is configured.
