The CLP1080e carries eight channels where the CLP1010e carries one, and that is the whole difference between them. Motorola gives both models identical figures everywhere else in its specification table.

Eight channels is what a site needs once it has more than one conversation happening. Kitchen and floor, housekeeping and front desk, stockroom and tills: each gets its own channel and nobody sits through traffic meant for someone else. The CLP handles the obvious risk of that arrangement with channel voice prompts, either Motorola's pre-defined set or custom recordings, so staff hear which channel they have landed on instead of counting clicks. A call alert lets a user reach people who are on another channel when something cannot wait.

Physically it is the same radio: 3.35 oz (95 g) with the standard Li-Ion battery, small enough to fit in the palm, with a glow ring around the push-to-talk button showing active channel and radio status. Audio output is 10 mW into 16 ohms, which is earpiece level, so this is a radio meant to be worn with an audio accessory rather than carried and listened to.

Specification: UHF, eight channels at 12.5 kHz, 1 watt high and 0.5 watts low, receiver sensitivity -122 dBm at 12 dB SINAD. Up to 18 hours at a 5/5/90 duty cycle on the standard BT90 1800 mAh Li-Ion battery, transmitter on high power, which Motorola notes is an average. IP54 rated, tested to Military Standard 810 C, D, E, F, G and H, operating from -30 C to +60 C.
