The PMLN8077 is Motorola's standard in-line push-to-talk earpiece for the CLPe Series, described in the CLP Series brochure as exclusively designed for that series and listed as an over-the-ear earpiece.
On the CLPe the earpiece is not an accessory in the ordinary sense. The radio's audio output is specified at 10 mW into 16 ohms, which is earpiece level rather than loudspeaker level, so an audio accessory is how the radio is meant to be used rather than an optional refinement.
The in-line push-to-talk is the second half of that. With the transmit button on the cable the radio never has to leave the pocket or the magnetic case, which is the point of a radio this discreet. The PMLN8125 is the same earpiece with a short cord, for wearing the radio higher on the body.
