Motorola publishes typical battery life for the DTR700 at 16.5 hours on a 5/5/90 profile at maximum transmit power, with the note that observed runtimes vary. The high-capacity pack is the answer where that figure is not clearing a shift in practice, which usually means heavy transmit traffic, cold conditions, or a pack that has aged.

Batteries are the consumable in a radio fleet and they decline gradually, so a fleet tends to blame the radios long before it blames the packs. A spare high-capacity battery per few radios is a cheaper answer than a radio that cannot finish a shift.
