The RMM2050 is the RM Series radio that needs no FCC license. Motorola labels it MURS, FCC License Free, and it runs the five MURS frequencies its spec sheet lists: 154.57 MHz and 154.60 MHz at 20.0 kHz, and 151.82, 151.88 and 151.94 MHz at 11.25 kHz. Channels are selected through its two programmable buttons.

That licensing difference is the reason to choose it. The UHF and VHF models in this series operate on business-exclusive frequencies that require a license, which is the correct answer for a site that wants clear air of its own. A small operation that wants radios working the day they arrive, with no filing and no renewal, buys MURS instead and accepts that the five channels are shared with anyone else nearby using them.

Beyond the frequencies it is the same radio as the rest of the family. 2 watts on high power and 1 watt on low, 1500 mW of audio, up to 250,000 square feet or 20 floors of coverage subject to terrain and conditions, and up to 15 hours per charge at a 5/5/90 duty cycle with battery save on.

It weighs 8.6 oz (244 g) with the standard Li-Ion battery in the 4.5 by 2.2 by 1.6 in RM Series case, sealed to IP55 and tested to Military Standard 810 C through G across a -30 C to +60 C operating range. The antimicrobial coating on the housing carries Motorola's own caveat that it does not protect users against bacteria, viruses or other disease organisms.

Supplied with a Li-Ion battery, a carry holster with swivel belt clip, a drop-in charging tray with power supply and the user guide.
