Describe the areas that need communication and any hearing-protection or equipment-certification requirements. Identify the complete radio and accessory combination for review.

Look at handset size, earpiece comfort, cable routing and the push-to-talk position. Decide which equipment is personal and which will be shared between shifts.

Crew-radio selection begins with the people who need to talk, their work areas and the existing system. Marine VHF selection begins with the vessel's communication requirements and the functions of the exact equipment.
Crew radios are not a substitute for required marine safety equipment. Use the guide to separate the categories before building your request.
Include a carry option and suitable audio accessories for each user. Count the batteries, spares and charging positions needed when equipment returns at the same time. Record the full models of any items you intend to retain.

Record the brand, complete model number and quantity required. Include the part numbers on batteries, chargers and audio accessories that must remain in use. Similar appearance or a matching connector alone does not establish compatibility.
Clear photographs of the radio and its model label can help. Keep the model readable and obscure unnecessary serial numbers, asset tags and customer identifiers. Do not force covers or dismantle equipment to obtain a photograph.
Tell us whether you need handheld or fixed-mount equipment, the functions required, and any antenna, power, mounting or integration requirements. Mark anything you are unsure about for review.

Begin with the full model numbers and operating configuration. Brand, appearance and the word “digital” do not establish compatibility. Include the accessories you want to retain in your request.
They serve different buying needs. Crew-radio planning begins with people and their compatible system; marine VHF planning begins with the vessel's communication requirements and the exact equipment. Crew radios do not replace required marine safety equipment.

Send the full radio model and the model of the item you need to replace. Include any charger, battery or audio accessory that must remain in use. CMI can review the request from that information; compatibility must be confirmed for the exact combination.
